Name: Fatima Patel
Course: AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting
“A head for numbers just like Carol Vorderman”
This is how Educational Communicator Michelle McCabe describes accountancy learner Fatima Patel, as they relax on campus during a break between classes. Fatima (on the left) is studying the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting, and is a determined and bright lady, who accesses the curriculum through British Sign Language as she is deaf, and with a visual impairment, caused by CHARGE syndrome.
Fatima is full of praise for the support she receives and the College and, despite her head for figures, she is keeping her options open for the future
“I’d like to work in a deaf environment,” she says “perhaps teach British Sign Language, computing or maths.”
Fatima also took the accountancy prize at the College’s 2010 annual prize-giving, the Excellence Awards.
