Name: Louis Bond
Course: A Levels
Determined learner, Louis Bond, has shown that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and work hard. Louis has overcome the odds by being accepted to Christ’s College, Cambridge to study law.
Louis attended Eastbrook Comprehensive School and continued on to Eastbrook’s sixth form, but left during Year 13 without taking his A Levels and went into full time work.
Barking & Dagenham College gave Louis another chance to pursue studies when he was accepted on the College’s A Level programme in September 2009.
A transfer from AS English to AS Government & Politics six months later gave Louis just two months to both catch up and keep up, but he passed his AS Level exams with flying colours, achieving 100% in a number of his exams.
Louis, pictured below, was rewarded for his hard work and commitment when he collected his A Level results (August 2011). It was clear from the smile on his face when he opened the envelope that he had done very well. Louis had achieved all Grade As in Government & Politics, Psychology and Sociology.
Louis will now begin his legal career, starting at Christ’s College, at Cambridge University in September.
Louis said: “My uncle went to university locally, to become a solicitor, but I’m the first in my family ever to head for Oxford or Cambridge.”
When asked what his experience had been like at Barking & Dagenham College he said: “It has been emotional.” Louis also thanked all of his tutors at the College for their support.
