“This course helped me clinch my new Westfield job”
A new career has opened up for Vicki Fowler of Romford after taking a retail course at Barking & Dagenham College. Vicki completed her City & Guilds Level 1 Course in Retail Knowledge in June 2011, and her skills clearly impressed a well known high street retailer after she was selected to help them launch their store in the prestigious Westfield Shopping Centre when it opened in September 2011.
Vicki explains how the course helped her get back into work: “I wanted to do something I hadn’t done before but it’s a competitive market out there and I knew I needed some training.
“Our course tutor was really, really good. She answered all our questions and was really clear and concise. I went to a conference in the Borough to hear about the opportunities at Westfield. I applied whilst I was still on the course, and after telephone and group interviews I was chosen.
“I did one month’s training at their flag-ship branch at Oxford Circus and then we were ready to launch the Westfield store.
“My job is so varied and interesting. I can honestly say that without this course I wouldn’t have got the job I have. I can thoroughly recommend it.”
