What qualifications do I need?
120 UCAS points:
BTEC National Diploma pass or 2 A levels at grade D or above.
Applicants should also ideally have GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or above or passed level 2 Key Skills.
Selection is by interview and appraisal of your portfolio of art and design work. Mature students with appropriate experience and attainment will also be considered.
Oversees applications are welcomed, as are those with disabilities.
What will I learn?
This Foundation Degree explores contemporary photography from both a historical and contextual perspective. On this exciting and creative course students are encouraged to explore the possibilities photography offers within our visual society. Students will gain practical skills, develop their creative and critical thinking skills and be prepared for a career in the cultural and creative intdustries.
The course will be delivered through a range of practical workshops, lectures and seminars, visiting guest lecturers, and educational visits. Alongside preparing you with the necessary skills and professional knowledge you will also develop your critical and analytical thinking skills.
The program will be delivered by practising professionals from a range of disciplines including fine-art, fashion, social documentary and advertising photography.
First year modules include:

- Image and Identity
- Digital Imaging
- Representation and Society
- Experimental Photographic Project
Second year modules include:
- Extended Photographic Techniques
- Critical Approaches to Contemporary Photography
- Launch Pad for Employment
- The Digital Portfolio
- Negotiated Major Project
Field Study Visit:
A field study trip a european city takes place in Year 2 and enables learners to gain a broader understanding of the international photography market.
Work Placement:
Work-Placements are mandatory in Year 2 and our students have gained placements in the following companies including: Worx Studios, Sunil Gupta (Photographer), GQ Magazine, Morgan/Lockyer (Photographers Agent), Reveal Magazine, BDi (Photo Lab), and Mark Lebon (Photographer).

How will I be taught?
This Foundation Degree in Photography is a full-time course delivered over three days a week. There will be a variety of study methods including:
- Practical workshops and demonstrations
- Lectures and seminars
- Group and 1:1 tutorial sessions
- Organised visits to galleries, talks and seminars
- European study visit
- Programme of visiting guest lecturers
Guest Lecturer Series:
Recent guest lecturers have included: Mark Lebon, Michael Olu, Jamie Morgan, Tung Walsh and Eileen Perrier
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through practical tasks and academic writing. There are no formal examinations on the programme. There are oppotunities to relate assessment tasks to your own research and career interests.

What could I do next?
Internal progression to a BA (Hons) Top-Up Photography at Barking and Dagenham College is available or you may wish to progress onto a BA (Hons) programme at another higher education institution. The programme also prepares you for employment in the Cultural & Creative Industries through work-placement, the creation of a photographic portfolio, and exhibition in year 2.
