What qualifications do I need?
No previous knowledge is required.
What will I learn?
If you are looking for a career as a PC Technician / Manager, roles that are much in demand currently, then this course is the one for you. It is a hands-on course yet includes the all important theory too.
Topics include:
Understanding ICT vocabulary and PC components
Characteristics of the PC hardware components and peripheral devices
Demonstrate the ability to set up a PC workstation
Recognize common operational problems caused by hardware and how to overcome them
Demonstrate the ability to minimize risks of data loss, loss of service, damage to equipment etc.
Demonstrate safety guidelines and preventative maintenance of computers
Identify risk associated when upgrading a PC
Conduct software installation, removal and/or upgrading
¿ Compatibility issues and common errors caused by hardware/software
¿ Recognize security risks and procedures and how to prevent them
¿ Improving productivity using IT systems.
The Strata (PC Configuration) programme is designed to provide you with a springboard to CompTIAs A+ course. Other useful courses for progression or for enhancing your skills would be N+ and CCNA. Please contact the ICT Sector for more information about these courses.

An informal and friendly environment in which to make the most of your learning experience.
How will I be assessed?
Students have a choice of two pathways:
1. Portfolio-based assessment for students not wishing to sit exams and students will obtain an ITQ Level 1 certificate.
2. Assessment through CompTIAs online tests for Strata, of which there are two exams in total. Students taking this option will obtain two qualifications for the price of one – Strata and iTQ Level 1.
Unless there is a strong reason not to, it is recommended option 2 is taken, particularly in today’s economic climate
What could I do next?
This course will naturally lead onto CompTIA’s A+, an internationally recognised qualification which we offer.
You will also be able to enrol onto one of the following courses:
Network+ (CompTIA) or
CCNA (Cisco) or
Intermediate IT
