Performing Arts (Drama, Dance, Music and Technical Theatre)
Step in to stand out: start your creative career here
If you are interested in training as an actor, dancer, theatre technician or stage manager we offer a choice of study options and unique links to a working theatre. The Performing Arts and Technical Theatre department is based at the Broadway Theatre in Barking. You will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of productions, in a warm and productive real theatre environment to learn your craft.
Those based at the Broadway Theatre train in a 360 seat theatre, along with access to rehearsal rooms and dance studios and a technical theatre workshop, along with a small recording studio with use of the sound and lighting equipment.
Whilst being based at the Broadway you will become part of cast and crew of BDC Company (Bright, Dedicated and Creative Theatre Company) which has a public season of productions during the Spring and Summer terms.
Train for a career as a Theatre Technician, Stage Manager or Producer
You may have heard the term Technical Theatre, but what does it mean?
It is all the essential elements, apart from the actors, that are needed to make sure any production runs smoothly. There are many professional career paths you can follow if you want to be involved in the performing arts. You can train with us for these careers:
- - Stage Management
- - Stage Technicians - Lighting & Sound
- - Set Construction & Design
- - Costume & Prop Design
As a technical theatre student you will also train on digital production equipment and software that you would expect to find in a professional theatre.
A career in the music business
Music and Music Technology students are based at the main site at Rush Green with a recording studio and access to up to date software and rehearsal studio. Our music courses will develop your technical skills so you can create and compose your own work using both live performance and digital mixing.
You’ll study in our music studio complete with recording booth, mixing desk and performance space. Logic Pro X is the software used by professional producers and that’s what you’ll be using too.
