Enterprising College of the Year 2015
29 April 2015
Barking & Dagenham College has been named Enterprising College of the Year in a national competition that celebrates student entrepreneurs. The competition hosted by the National Association of College and University Entrepreneurs (NACUE) recognises outstanding students and educators who are succeeding in enterprising activities and inspiring entrepreneurship at their institution.
Collecting the Award at NACUE’s Annual Leaders’ Summit in Mayfair on Friday 24th April was the College’s Chief Entrepreneurial Lead, Adnan Mahmood, with students Phillip Newberry and Roy Mugera.
The panel of judges were particularly impressed with their commitment to engaging large numbers of students within enterprising activity, such as their Market Maker competition that engaged over 160 students.
Speaking about the win, Cathy Walsh OBE, Principal and CEO at Barking & Dagenham College said
“Helping students develop entrepreneurial skills, whether they want to create and run their own business or they want to become an entrepreneurial employee, is central to the Barking & Dagenham College experience. NACUE’s endorsement of our work to add value to students’ work-ready skills is really valuable and we are delighted to accept this award.”
NACUE Chief Executive, Johnny Luk said:
“It is a pleasure to present Barking & Dagenham College with this award. They are a fantastic example of how enterprising and innovative college students can be, and are successful at engaging lots of students from different subject backgrounds.
"We have just launched NACUE Talent, a brand new service for people just like these students. It is an honour to work with a community of such talented and committed young people. We can’t wait to see what is next for them.”
