Huawei Launches Authorised Network Academy with Barking & Dagenham College

9 October 2017

Dagenham, UK, 6 October 2017: Today, Barking and Dagenham College (BDC) and Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider have launched their HAINA (Huawei Authorized Information Network Academy) cooperation.

This not for profit partnership programme allows academic institutions to deliver Huawei Certification training to their students. The programme not only cultivates ICT talent and helps students become employment ready, but also aids in filling the global ICT skills gap by creating a bridge between academia and industry.

To celebrate the partnership, a signing ceremony was held at BDC during the Young People’s Conference. The conference was funded by the Mayor of London and aimed to bring the council and schools together to discuss ways in which support for young people could be improved.

A wide range of key industry areas will be covered by the Huawei ICT Academy Program and students will have the opportunity to gain industry certification and expertise in networking technologies, security, cloud computing technologies, IT storage systems and big data. Students will gain practical hands-on experience on Huawei’s latest networking technologies as well as be able to download their own personal copy of Huawei’s eNSP (Enterprise Network Simulation Platform) networking simulator.

Yvonne Kelly Principal & CEO at Barking & Dagenham College, said: “We are pleased to announce details of this new partnership with Huawei, and are excited for the possibilities that it will offer our students. The fast changing nature of technology means that it is crucial for our students to get the best possible hands-on experience to prepare them for future careers in the sector. Participation in the HAINA programme will give our students a great opportunity to challenge themselves and learn from the best in the industry.”

Gordon Luo, CEO of Huawei UK, said: “Huawei has a strong focus on helping the next generation develop the skills needed to drive new innovations in technology. Huawei’s HAINA programme is part of our wider commitment to STEM education as well as research and development. We are sure that our partnership with Barking and Dagenham College will give students the opportunity to learn new and relevant industry skills, enabling them to fulfil their ambitions in science and technology.”

During the launch event, students had the opportunity to experience Huawei’s Demonstration Truck at the college campus. The mobile showroom featured some of Huawei’s latest Enterprise solutions and attendees were able to learn more about Huawei’s technologies and how it was using innovation to build a better connected world.

Huawei is currently cooperating with over 240 universities to open Huawei ICT Academies across China, North America, Europe, Australia and more. Every year, the Academy trains over 16,200 students globally. The Huawei ICT Academy program also runs a global annual ‘Skills Competition’ for students, giving local country winners the opportunity to visit China for the finals and compete with students from across the globe.
