Jazmine chooses college over university

19 year old Jazmine Croft will be travelling for three hours a day from her home on the Sussex/Essex border to study photography.

She studied for A-levels last year and wanted to study for a BA (Hons) Photography. Instead of going to university, she opted to study for the degree at Barking & Dagenham College, despite the college being miles from her home.

Jazmine explains: “I was looking for course in photography that was practically-based rather than theoretical. wanted to know the commercial viability of photography and felt that the course that Barking & Dagenham College have developed does that perfectly, together with all the facilities and equipment available.

“Although the college is an hour and a half drive away from where I live, the course is three full days a week rather than the odd lecture here and there. This will also enable me to work part-time as well to help me fund my course and get valuable work experience.

“I studied A-Levels in a very academic school that I had won a sports scholarship to. I didn't do too well, as I have dyslexia and wasn't very good at explaining myself through written examinations, which is again why I chose this course rather than one that was more essay-based. This course is more practical, and with small class numbers, I will be able to access more help.”
