  2. Academy celebrates 2nd birthday

    The Technical Skills Academy (TSA) celebrated its second birthday this week by highlighting the success of its students and its increasing popularity. Opened in 2012, the TSA now has over 400 students, has launched five more courses due to increased demand and a host of students who have now completed their studies with the TSA have gone on to gain employment or continue in further education.

    Barking & Dagenham College has responded to employer needs by launching a flexible Higher Level Apprenticeship in Project Management where the teaching is delivered online. It gives the apprentices the flexibility to study when and where they choose, ensuring valuable working hours are not lost, whilst still maintaining the high standards of classroom teaching but accessed online at work or at home.

    A group of students from Barking & Dagenham College couldn’t resist the urge to take a selfie with London Mayor Boris Johnson at City Hall last night. And it was 29 year old floristry student Charlie Makeveli, from Hornchurch, who bought his selfie stick along for the occasion!

    Sandra Coats, 57, from Romford has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen's New Year Honours List in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Barking & Dagenham College where she works as a Catering Assistant. "Absolutely delighted, I am over the moon," said Sandra, "It is a great honour and I am very grateful to Barking & Dagenham College for nominating me. It is fantastic to know that my efforts have been recognised."
