The Mayor had just stopped by Barking & Dagenham College to see how plans were shaping up for The Skills Show Experience event which takes place later this month.

  1. International digital competition nets College team £2,500

    A team of IT-savvy students from the College won £2,500 as runners-up a worldwide CareerHack competition to create an app to help people develop their careers. The 'Know Your Future' app was designed by the team pictured here outside their 2 Fix Solutions IT Shop which they also run at the Rush Green Campus. Left to right they are: Ellen Kerr, Andre Gayle, Gausika Kanagaratnam and Dean Richards and all are studying for an HND in Computing at Barking & Dagenham College.

  1. BDC Principal & CEO joins London Enterprise Panel

    It has been announced today that the Mayor of London has appointed our Principal & CEO, Cathy Walsh, as a member of the London Enterprise Panel. She is the first Principal to fill the newly created position of Further Education representative on the Panel. Set up in 2011, the Panel is an advisory body established and chaired by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson to take a strategic view of the regeneration, employment and skills agenda for London.

  2. Fix Auto Bodyshops Seize the AutoRaise Initiative

    Recognising the importance of training the next generation of collision repair specialists to attain a diverse and flexible range of skills, a growing number of bodyshops within the Fix Auto UK franchised network are seizing the initiative and investing in the AutoRaise apprenticeship developed by Barking & Dagenham College in close consultation with Fix Auto Dagenham.

    Sandra Coats, 57, from Romford has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen's New Year Honours List in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Barking & Dagenham College where she works as a Catering Assistant. "Absolutely delighted, I am over the moon," said Sandra, "It is a great honour and I am very grateful to Barking & Dagenham College for nominating me. It is fantastic to know that my efforts have been recognised."
