Preparing you for the emergency services or armed forces
Are you focused, determined, self-disciplined, hard working and ready for a challenge?
Public Service courses are designed to prepare you for one of the emergency services or one of the armed forces, including: Police, Fire, Paramedic or Ambulance Technician, Prison service, Coastguard, Armed Services - Navy, Army or the RAF. You will learn about team work, resilience, how to communicate with people - plus your fitness will improve too!
Our Public Services courses (BTEC and NCFE) are about employability and getting you ready for work by developing T-shaped skills. You will develop your confidence, communications skills, leadership, problem-solving, conflict-management and time-management skills in addition to orienteering skills.
The course will focus on critical thinking skills and you will be involved in outward bound activities where you will learn how to solve problems. Your fitness levels will be monitored to ensure you meet requirements for Army & Police fitness tests. It's all in a day’s work!
You'll spend about 60% of your time on campus and 40% on fitness and outdoor activities. You will also hear from guest lecturers who have done the jobs you want to do, and you will get to see behind the scenes with visits to army camps, fire stations, prisons and the coastguard.
