Carpentry apprentice, Zayddin, is moving into management
Zayddin McKop, 23, explains how his Level 3 Apprenticeship in Carpentry with Egg Group Ltd in Harlow, is opening the door to a management career.
“At Egg Group Ltd we cover all aspects of building work, from office and domestic refurbishments to new builds,” explains Zayddin, “All our joinery is bespoke, and very high quality.
“As a professional carpenter, you need an excellent eye for detail. If your work is half a millimetre out the implications further on in the project could be huge.
“Egg Group has given me the opportunity to learn other aspects of the construction business and I am now aiming for a career in management. My next step is the HNC in Construction & Site Management, which I’ll be studying part-time at Barking & Dagenham College alongside my job.
Growing your own talent
Martin Tilley, Managing Director at Egg Group Ltd, explains how apprenticeships add value to the business:
“Zayddin’s carpentry apprenticeship at Barking & Dagenham College has been of the highest quality. Both his technical ability and his employability skills have been extremely valuable to our business, so much so that I have talent-spotted him for a more senior role.
“He is currently working in a project management capacity, working with clients on specifications and quotations, which will be supplemented with further training at the College.
”I would encourage other businesses to consider apprenticeships – they are a great way of growing your own talent and tailoring it to the needs of your business.”
