If you are thinking about studying for a Higher Education qualification in the UK it is important that your level of English – reading, writing, listening and speaking – is good enough for you to get the most out of your course.
If English is not your first language you need to take IELTS to test your English language proficiency. There are two versions of the test: IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training – depending on the organisation you are applying to and your plans for the future.
The score you need to achieve will depend on the level of course you are planning to study.
- For a level 5 course, such as a Higher National Diploma (HND) you need to achieve a grade of 4.5
- For a level 6 course, such as a BA degree, you need to achieve a grade of 5.5
- For a level 7 course, such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) you need to achieve a grade of 6.5
