3D Design Learners Commissioned to Create Stimulating Artwork for Local Dementia Care Unit
Two 3D Design learners from the College have recently participated in a project to design artwork for the dementia unit at Park View Care Home in Dagenham, as part of an initiative to promote cognitive stimulation amongst its residents.
Faye Murphy, 20, from Ilford and Jo Ingram, 20, from Romford, have both just completed their Foundation Degrees in 3D Design, and were delighted to be involved following an enquiry made to the College by Penny Hammond, General Manager of Park View.
The initial phase of the project consisted of a visit by the girls, in order to meet with residents, develop an understanding of what was required and discuss potential ideas. Over the few months that followed, 8 pieces of artwork were developed between them, and are now in position at the home, being enjoyed by residents, visitors and staff daily.
Speaking of the designs, Penny said;
It has long been thought that the use of art therapy in dementia care can contribute to wellbeing, and that it is a valuable tool in enriching the lives of those affected. We were thrilled that Barking & Dagenham College agreed to participate in this initiative. Thanks to Faye and Jo, we now have some fabulous artwork on the walls of the home, which are not only eye-catching, but interactive for our residents.”
