The College was invited to a special event on the top floor of City Hall in London. The event was to celebrate Barking & Dagenham, East London and the local communities in those areas.
The Mayor gave a speech whereby he praised the area and said how excited he was for the Olympic Games to come to London in 2012. He also praised the fantastic young people in East London and all of the positive things that they do.
Mr Johnson said: “I’d like to welcome so many people from East London to this special evening. Next year you will all be representing a part of the City that will be watched and in the eyes of the entire world.”
The Mayor added: “When the world comes to east London they will see an area that we can all be incredibly and fantastically proud of.”
Then it was time for the learners to meet the mayor and get their photograph with him.
Travel & Tourism learner, Kieran Vincent said: “It was great to meet the Mayor and probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. He was really nice and made the time to come and talk to us and have his picture taken with us!”
Kieran added: “ It was also really interesting to hear him talking about our area and in particular the Olympics, from what he was saying this area is going to get better and better!”
With the College celebrating it’s 50th Birthday during academic year 2011/12, the Mayor also congratulated the College and wished us a Happy 50th Birthday!
