Thank you to our Sponsors:

We had entertainment by our music and Performing Arts learners and behind the stage the Technical Theatre learners ran the show doing the lighting, audio and sound.

Our Winners- Well Done!

Barking & Dagenham College’s Excellence Awards, an annual celebration of its learners and staff, played out last night in front of a diverse audience encompassing family & friends, VIPs, dignitaries and business representatives from throughout the Borough.

The evening was held at the Broadway Theatre, Barking and was an exciting and glamorous evening, celebrating all of the inspirational people learning at the College.

Lee McQueen, winner of Series 4 of ‘The Apprentice’ was the key speaker and enthralled the audience with his story of how he has got to where he is today.
Lee was also very impressed with all of the winners, he told the audience: ” I’m standing up here telling you my story but tonight, seeing you all and hearing about what you have achieved, I am the one who is inspired!”.
Chloe Spiteri, a 22-year-old Olympic hopeful in Freestyle Wrestling also gave an exciting and inspiring speech telling learners that  they could do anything if they put their mind to it and worked hard.

The evening was also an opportunity to showcase the talents of our learners throughout the College.

The delicious food was courtesy of our Food Studies learners. We had entertainment by our music and  Performing Arts learners and behind the stage the Technical Theatre learners ran the show doing the lighting, audio and sound.

College Principal & CEO Cathy Walsh said: “Last night’s Excellence Awards event was thoroughly enjoyable and inspirational. For everyone who came along, our learners, staff, speakers, sponsors and guests, and everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes to make it happen, my sincere thanks.

“Let’s make this a further year of success and achievement for learners and staff so we have even more to celebrate next year.”

To also receive the final award of the night was a surprise for James, who only thought that he had won the Hospitality and Food Studies Award.

During his time with Barking & Dagenham College, James has grown from being a shy, introverted learner, to a very important part of the Food Studies team.

Along with several other learners, he has volunteered on every occasion we have been involved in an event. He is always one of the first in class, this can be as early as 7.30am .

James proved to be an exemplary learner and is currently awaiting interview at Savoy Hotel.

Curriculum Manager for Food Studies, Adrian Crabb, says he has no doubt that James will be accepted and knows his will be a real success story.
