Around 18 local businesses visited the College at the end of June and a number of our childcare learners have been offered interviews and trials since.
Ann McDaniel, Head of Childcare said: “The College has been holding this event for over ten years now and it always proves to be a big success. The same employers come back every year because they are so happy with the learners they employ. I am thrilled that we have so much interest in our learners and I am delighted that many have been offered interviews and may be employed straight out of College.”
One example of a satisfied customer is Sabrina Lakhan who is the manager of Montessori Nurseries.
At the event Sabrina said: “I have been to a lot of other Colleges, but I always come back here to find my employees. This is because the learners here are all so enthusiastic and hardworking. All those I have employed at previous Childcare Employment Days here, have proved to be outstanding.”
At last year’s event Sabrina took on six learners, three of which helped her gain outstanding in every area during an Ofsted inspection at her Docklands Nursery, where they are all Team Leaders.
Sabrina was also joined by and ex learner, Kerry Benham who she employed following the same event two years ago. Kerry is now a deputy Room Leader at Sabrina’s Goodmayes Nursery.
Sarah (Left) and Leah (Right) return to the College
Two other familiar faces were also at the event, ex learners Leah Clarke and Sarah Saint. Leah and Sarah attended the College twelve years ago where they studied Childcare.
Since leaving they have gone on to open three ‘Barney Bear’s’ Nurseries and are planning to open their fourth. They were also runners up in last years’ Barking & Dagenham Business Awards and have been nominated again this year.
On her return Leah said: “It’s great to be back. Studying Childcare at this College really did put Sarah and me in good stead for a career in Childcare. We always come back to employ learners here as we know only too well how well trained they, they are also all so keen and enthusiastic.”
