Star of BBC?s The Apprentice, Paul Sullivan, went to Barking & Dagenham College last week to meet some of the College?s apprentices.
The College had organised a day of activities and competitions to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week.
Whilst at the college, Paul was chief judge for a business and enterprise competition which English for Speakers of Other Languages students had taken part in; small teams of students were given an imaginary budget of £1000 per team. They then had to decide on a product they would buy in order to sell on for profit. Each team created a business idea, including a marketing plan and company strapline, then they presented to a Dragons' Den style panel, which was led by Paul Sullivan.
38-year-old Paul, who is the owner and director of a marketing company specialising in finance, technology, construction and property, is a champion of apprenticeships, he said: “When apprenticeships are used correctly, they give people the opportunity to express themselves and develop themselves professionally in a way that simply studying at college or school does not.”
And, when asked what tips he would give budding apprentices, Paul, who was fired by Sir Alan Sugar in Week Eight of The Apprentice, advised: “Accept failure. It’s part of the growth process; you should reassess what you did wrong and then move forward.”
