College lecturer is ?Secret? artist

4th December 2018

A photography lecturer from Barking & Dagenham College is one of the Royal College of Art?s secret contributors to their annual ?RCA Secret? fundraising exhibition.

The RCA’s unique fundraising exhibition features thousands of original postcard size artworks by acclaimed artist designers and up-and-coming RCA graduates and students; all proceeds go to support students.

Each postcard is signed on the reverse side, the identity of the artist remains SECRET until donations have been made and postcards secured.

The work of David Bennett, Programme Leader for photography at the College is featured amongst that of world famous artists and creatives.

Previous contributors include: David Bowie; artists Grayson Perry and Tracey Emin; inventor Sir James Dyson; film director Mike Leigh; photographer David Bailey; designer Orla Kiely and fashion designer Paul Smith.

For donation of £60 per postcard, people have a chance to purchase original works of art for a relatively small price.

The postcards have been viewable online since the 29th November and over the last few days they’ve been on display at the Royal College of Art in Kensington.

Barking & Dagenham College’s Principal and CEO Yvonne Kelly headed over to the exhibition to see the postcards for herself, she said:

We are very proud that one of our own talented lecturers was involved in this year’s RCA Secret exhibition. I enjoyed trying to work out which one might be David’s and I look forward to finding out the secret. This was the third year that David has taken part and he has used his experience to run a similar event for our own students at Barking & Dagenham College. The postcards I bought at our own exhibition take pride of place on my office wall.
