College tutor gains Employability Champion accolade

A tutor from Barking & Dagenham College has been named London and the South East?s Regional Winner for the Santander Employability Champion of the Year Award 2017.

Dilon Beqa, a Business and Finance Lecturer has been identified through his work with the national charity Career Ready which links schools and colleges with employers to help prepare young people for the world of work.

Through his work, Dilon has arranged for a range of career-enhancing opportunities for students, including arranging masterclasses, visits to city-based firms, mentoring, work experience and internship opportunities.

He is now invited to attend the National Judging Day in London on 1st March at Santander’s London HQ at Triton Square.

The National Judging Panel will review Dilon’s nomination and will hear a presentation from him about his experience of running the Career Ready programme at the College. The panel will then ask him questions about his work.

From the six regional winners, one national winner will be chosen.

Dilon commented:“I was thrilled and a little overwhelmed to hear that I was one of the six Regional winners and I am looking forward to, although a little nervous, meeting the panel on the 1st March.”

“Equipping our students with skills which will lead them into employment is at the heart of what we do.

I am passionate about instilling a culture of enterprise and entrepreneurship amongst students and staff; I was delighted to hear that Dilon has been named regional winner of the Santander Employability Champion of the Year Award.

We are all very proud of him.”

In December, another tutor from Barking & Dagenham College Adnan Mahmood, a business and enterprise, was shortlisted for $1m global teacher prize by the Varkey Foundation.
