A tutor from Barking & Dagenham College has been awarded for her expertise in teaching science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The London and South East England winners of the ENTHUSE Celebration Awards were announced at a high-profile awards evening on 24th April at the Royal Society, in London.
The Awards event celebrated the impact of professional development on teachers, technicians, schools and colleges in the crucial areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Marcia Mendoza, STEM Learning Coordinator and colleagues were in the packed audience at the Royal Society when it was announced that Marcia had won the ENTHUSE award for excellence in STEM teaching. Marcia attributes much of the success of her team down to the support that they get from senior management, adding: “with continued support and encouragement from the College’s senior leadership, I know that our STEM work will go from strength to strength.”
Barking & Dagenham College’s innovative Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Centre was the only space of its kind in London and one of only two in the whole of England when it was opened in 2013 by Carol Vorderman MBE.
Marcia and other winners from London and South East England will go on to the UK-wide finals and attend a prestigious event at the House of Commons in London.
