Employer Breakfast Event

11th April 2019

Our Business Engagement Team hosted a breakfast networking event for partner employers this morning.

This was a great opportunity for employers to find out more about the implementation of new Skills & Employment Academies at Barking & Dagenham College from 2019/20. These will be developed with employers to support students in developing the skills, competencies, technical knowledge and behaviours that will enable them to successfully enter the workplace and develop their careers.

Russell Stilwell, Director of RSE Ltd Construction Wise, delivered a presentation on changing perceptions of the construction industry to have a positive impact on skills shortages and mental health wellbeing for future generations.

Karen Vigar, Education Engagement Manager at ISG, discussed the new Level 3 Applied Diploma in Professional Construction Practice, which is a new course being offered at Barking & Dagenham College from September 2019. The course provides a contemporary insight into modern construction management practices and focuses on technology to broaden the appeal of construction. Modules include Building Information Modelling, the use of drones, laser scanning technology, and AI and VR in the built environment.

Nick Oddy, ISG’s Operations Director, also showcased a Virtual Reality tour of our brand new building for advanced technologies, which will open at the Rush Green Campus for academic year 2019/20.

Feedback from employers who attended was very positive, with Barking & Dagenham College’s plans for further events being welcomed.

John Lewis, Sales Director at Barking & Dagenham College, said:

We would like to thank Russell, Nick & Karen for presenting at the event and a big thank you to our employer partners who as always took the time to attend and feedback on the presentations. We are looking forward to continuing our dialogue regarding the Skills & Employment Academies in preparation for academic year 2019 -2020.
