Rebekkah is awarded for volunteer work with autistic young people

14th June 2017

A student from Barking & Dagenham College received recognition last week for her work for the charity Sycamore Trust.

Sycamore Trust U.K. is a charity based in Barking and Dagenham which supports parents, carers and individuals affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorders and/or Learning Difficulties.

Rebekkah George-Charles was awarded for her hard work and commitment over the past 2 years, having given over 200 hours of her own time to volunteering at the Sycamore Trust, supporting autistic young people.

To celebrate Volunteers Week, the Volunteer Centre in Havering organised a ‘Big Thank You’ celebration. The event was a way of saying thank you for the difference volunteers make to people's lives living in Havering. The Mayor And Deputy Mayor awarded certificates and badges in recognition of volunteers who gave their time freely to a cause close to the heart.

Rebekkah and other volunteers received a certificate and a free afternoon tea at the Queen’s Theatre Green in Hornchurch on 9 June. The event also featured a guest appearance from former X-Factor singer Lydia Lucy of Romford.

Her proud tutor Micheala Harris said:

This young lady is a very motivated and hardworking student and is going off to university this year. We are very pleased that her voluntary work is being recognised.
