Student runs free art lessons online

30th June 2020

An Art and Design student has been putting his talent to good use during lockdown by running free online art lessons.

Barking & Dagenham College student Emmanuel Oreyeni, 17, from Barking has been passionate about art from a young age. He became involved in the Thames Ward Community Project while in secondary school and when the country went into lockdown he was asked if he could continue his support of the project.

Emmanuel was keen to help and now runs weekly art lessons online as part of the campaign.

Emmanuel says: “The online lessons are a chance for people to learn something new while they are stuck at home, socialise with new people and connect the art community online. I’m doing the lessons using materials you would have at home already. So we’re using pencils, rubbers, sharpeners, biros and any piece of paper. You don’t need anything else to get started. I really hope that everyone enjoys joining in.”

Emmanuel has already shown viewers how to draw things such as faces, how to shade using biro pen and how to draw things from different angles.

The one hour sessions run every Monday at 5pm and will be continuing throughout the summer.
