A degree of celebration: Higher Education Awards & Graduation Ceremony
2 December 2014
Over 180 Barking & Dagenham College graduates, watched by their proud friends, family, VIPs and members of staff, received their degrees on the weekend (Saturday 29 November) at the College’s Higher Education Awards & Graduation Ceremony.
Principal and CEO, Cathy Walsh OBE, gave the opening address before leading the celebrations of the outstanding achievement of the students. Awards and certificates were given in subjects ranging from fine art, construction, automotive engineering and creative media production, to business studies, animation and graphic design.
Symons-Hatton Award & Paris internship
One of the graduates had another reason to celebrate too. 19 year old Sophie Willison, from Romford, was the proud recipient of the Symons-Hatton Award, which is presented to students that demonstrate a high level of commitment on their photography or media course.
And 24 year old Joana Lima, from Barking, was also celebrating more than a degree. As well as graduating with a BA (Hons) in photography, she also won the prestigious prize of a two month internship with internationally renowned studios ‘Le Studio Rouchon’ in Paris. The internship is a fantastic opportunity for Joana to hone her photography skills.
For students, by students
The graduation ceremony was enjoyed by all who attended. Not only were students receiving awards on the night, many were also instrumental in the celebrations. The flower arrangements were designed and made by the College’s floristry department and the entertainment was provided by performing arts students.
