Amy Penfold, 18,  is studying a Level 3 qualification in Patisserie and Confectionary at BDC. She entered her first baking competition last week, and came third in her category!

Baking is Amy's passion, having started when she was just 10 years old.

Baking everything from cakes to cupcakes, meringues and biscuits. Amy has been practicing hard to hone her skills. She loves baking so much, she even set up her own businesslast year, Vanilla Cakes UK, offering cakes for any occasion.

This year, Amy decided to take on a new challenge and entered her first competition, Cake International.  It’s the world’s largest cake decoration and sugarcraft show, which took place at the ExCeL centre, in London. She received ‘highly commended’ for her fantastic space themed cake and came third overall in the 16-18 cake category.

Amy said: “Learning a trade like baking takes a lot of time, patience and hard work!  I have received lots of great feedback about my cakes and I’m very pleased with my result in the competition.”
