Mark Farrar, Chair

Mark started his career in the Royal Navy before retraining as a Chartered Accountant.
Following senior roles in the Financial Service sector with Barclays Bank and Norwich Union, Mark moved into the public sector and joined Cefas, a Government-owned marine science and environmental research body, where as Chief Executive he restructured the business.
Mark was Chief Executive of the UK Construction Industry Training Board where he led the development of new, low carbon skills initiatives and in recent years returned to accountancy and finance as Chief Executive of AAT (the Association of Accounting Technicians).
Mark has also been a Board Member of WISE (Women into Science & Engineering), a Trustee of BRE (the Building Research Establishment) and served on the board of the government’s Skills Funding Agency where he was Chairman of the audit committee and also acted as Chairman of the Board in recent years in advance of merger with the Education & Skills Funding Agency.
