Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC
The next generation of bakers
Barking & Dagenham College has been training Morrisons’ bakery apprentices since the partnership began back in 2007.
The training programme, which has been tailor-made for the supermarket giant, is delivered in the industry-standard bakery kitchens at our Rush Green campus.
“The quality of the training is excellent” says Vera Foreman, the Apprentice & Trainee Scheme Manager for Morrisons, who is happy to endorse the high quality of teaching we provide.
“I visit the College on a regular basis and sit in on both the theory and practical lessons. The quality of training is excellent. The tutor builds a strong rapport with the students from the first day.
“Our bakery apprentices come away from the College with a clear understanding of the theory behind the practical aspects needed to work in the baking industry and are able to put the skills and knowledge into practice on return to their respective stores.
"I am more than happy with the equipment the students use, as it is very similar to what they use in store, and the programme has been designed to fit into what we as a company and what the industry require from them.
“I look forward to the continued partnership.”
David Barwell, a Morrisons' Apprentice Baker from their Folkestone branch who is trained by Barking & Dagenham College, was just outside the top three in the National Graduate Recruitment Awards.
On Thursday 20 March 2014, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London's Park Lane, it was announced that David achieved 4th place in a field of 10 national finalists. Well done David!
