Enjoyed your fashion and textiles studies and want to take them to the next level?

Studying the subsidiary (first) year and extended (second) year of this course will set you up for a career in fashion or for degree-level study!

On the course you'll get to develop your skills in:

  • Pattern cutting
  • Designing moodboards
  • Sketching
  • Fashion illustration

You'll be assessed on your assignments throughout the course.

You'll also have to do practical tasks along the way.

You'll need either:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above OR
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification

Janice Amonoo studied at renowned institutions including The London College of Fashion. Since then she's worked with numerous fashion stylists and labels, and she ran her own fashion line and Brick Lane outlet. Her work has been featured in magazines such as Flux, Elle, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire.

Kim Stevenson graduated from UEL with first class honours and now teaches on their fashion foundation programme. She runs her own award-winning sustainable fashion label, and has been featured in a number of magazines and newspapers.

Krasimira Stoyneva runs her own internally recognised fashion label, having graduated from UEL with first class honours. She's won awards and her designs have been worn by numerous stars and even on the X Factor! Krasimira is known for her ethical movements against fur.

There are opportunities for work experience and for entering competitions.

Complete this subsidiary year and move onto the extended one.

Where it can lead to

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
