This course is designed to support the work of Independent Assessors in the End Point Assessment (EPA) process for Apprenticeships.

This is a growth area and employment opportunity, ideal for those who wish to work on a part-time, freelance or flexible basis.

It would also be helpful for Coach-Assessors who work with apprentices, to develop their understanding of the EPA process.

There are 5 Learning Outcomes which cover:

  • Roles and responsibilities of Independent Assessors
  • Functions of EPA
  • Grading requirements
  • Assessment methods
  • Planning EPA
  • Risk management
  • Recording documentation
  • Making assessment decisions
  • Recording documents
  • Confidentiality
  • Legislative requirements
  • Feedback to different stakeholders
  • Disputes and appeals
  • Quality Assurance

Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, and 5 are assessed through a learner workbook which you will complete after the training session(s).

Learning Outcome 4 is assessed through observation of practice EPAs within a simulated environment.

You will also develop employability skills such as:

  • communicating
  • negotiating and influencing
  • problem-solving and analysis
  • report writing
  • professional development planning

You do not need to have any qualifications to study this course.

Please be aware that to work as an Independent Assessor, you will need professional qualifications in your occupational area.

You could work as an Independent Assessor carrying out EPA of apprentices in your specialist field. There is an opportunity for further progression to Internal Quality Assurance of EPA. The TAQA 4 qualification would be useful in this instance.

This course is also useful for those who wish to work as Coach-Assessors for apprentices whilst they are on programme.
