Our Functional Skills courses in English and maths run from Entry Level to Level 2.

Apply here and we’ll be in touch to invite you in for a skills check. This is simply so we can make sure you're studying at the right level.

English learning will start with basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. It will progress through understanding grammar, punctuation and sentence structure – to developing critical-thinking and text-analysis skills.

Maths courses will cover a range of mathematical techniques. You’ll start by improving your understanding of numbers, fractions and percentages, and move onto applying your knowledge, measuring shape and space, and handling data in practical situations.

You will be assessed by exam at the end of the course.

We will invite you in for a skills check. This is simply so we can make sure you're studying at the right level.

Depending on what level you start your English or maths with us, you can progress through the levels of Functional Skills up to Level 2. If you wish to further your study of English or maths you can study towards a GCSE.

The knowledge and skills you'll develop on all of our English and maths courses will help you to put these into practice in real life situations, both in and outside the classroom.

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
