The BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment is a level 3 programme for learners looking to study construction as a one-year, full-time course, or for those wishing to take it alongside another area of contrasting or complementary study, as part of a two-year, full-time study programme such as the Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment. It supports progression to higher education, if taken as part of a programme of study that includes other BTEC Nationals or A Levels. It also supports progression to an Apprenticeship in the construction sector or to a further year of study at Level 3.

You will be taught the following units:

  • Construction Principles
  • Construction Design
  • Construction Technology
  • Health and Safety in Construction
  • Surveying in Construction
  • Graphical Detailing in Construction
  • Building Regulations
  • Control in Construction

Equivalent in size to 1.5 A Levels. The course comprised seven (7) units of which 4 are mandatory (66% of the course). Of the 4 mandatory units, two (2) are external examinations (44% of the course).

GCSE grade 5 maths and grade 4 English. Must also have Grade 4 and above for three more GCSES (preferably Science).

Or Must have BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate/Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.

This course is suitable for learners wishing to progress onto the Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment. It supports progression to higher education, if taken as part of a programme of study that includes other BTEC Nationals or A Levels. It also supports progression to an Apprenticeship in the construction sector or to a further year of study at Level 3.
