This course is useful for teachers, assessors, progress coaches or trainers.

This qualification has been developed with the support of organisations who train mentors to work with clients from varying backgrounds, of different ages and with differing needs. It is best suited for those who need to be able to mentor individuals in a range of settings including on-the-job or in a training provider, FE College, Adult Learning Service or a company’s internal training department.

You will learn the key skills and values associated with mentoring and how to put them into practice. You will also learn:

  • responsibilities of a mentor
  • relevant codes of practice, guidelines and legislation
  • boundaries of own role
  • how and when to refer a client
  • how to organise mentoring activities
  • how to evaluate your own performance as a mentor
  • the benefits of mentoring

Through a portfolio of evidence which could include:

  • assignments
  • observations of practice
  • witness statements
  • work products
  • reflective accounts
