Dual Sensory Photography Exhibition

24th July 2017

Photo exhibition for Deafblind Awareness 2017 at The Gallery, Rush Green Campus, open to the public until 31st July.

On Friday, 12th May 2017, the Dual Sensory Group had a wonderful photography day at Barking & Dagenham College who kindly gave us their time and use of the photography department/equipment to help us produce some fantastic photos in aid of Deafblind Awareness 2017.

Our gratitude goes to the students studying photography and the BDC photography department. We had use of the black studio and the white studio with opposing colour tables for the still life set up (peoples favourite/special item), lighting and the use of different cameras, including ones set up on the tripod, and a laptop connected to the projector to show enlarged images whilst taking pictures. Students had a short sensory awareness training lesson with pre-learning resources given before about photography with a visual impairment, introducing them to different ways of taking photos and solutions to difficulties encountered. At the end of the day, we had our photos displayed at a screening with images enlarged to approximately four by four feet. There was laughter, amazement, and a real sense of achievement by all.

We are proud to exhibit our photos for Deafblind Awareness 2017 at The Gallery, Barking and Dagenham College, Rush Green Campus, Dagenham Road, Romford, RM7 0XU which is open to the public until 31st July, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Information about the day’s event and having a combined sight and hearing loss is available on site as well as information about the Learning Support Team for courses at Barking and Dagenham College and how to contact the LBBD Sensory Team. We are also grateful to DigiLab who produced two 3D images from one of the photos exhibited using a 3D printer thus enabling tactile access to images produced.

As well as the Dual Sensory Photography Exhibition, now extended to the 31st July, there are two additional events locally:

Barking Learning Centre (Your eyes, Be active Event, 27th July, 10:00 to 15:00)

Bakers Social Club, Dagenham (Hearing Loss Event, 20th September, 10:30 to 15:00).

All events are free and open to the public, no invite or ticket needed.
